Prenatal Paternity Test

Choosing Whether To Have A Prenatal Paternity Test.

If you have more than one partner, it is only normal that you want to know who the father of your baby is. With a prenatal paternity test, there is no need to wait until the baby is born in order to determine the paternity. This can be a long wait and cause a lot of unnecessary emotions. In order to perform a prenatal paternity test, the pregnancy must be at least ten weeks along. The prenatal paternity test can be performed directly in the comfort of your OBGYN's office. Once the samples have been collected, the DNA will be analyzed and the man in question will either be statistically proven to be the father with 99.9 percent accuracy, or disproven to be the father by 100 percent. A prenatal paternity test is highly accurate an conclusive, providing desired results in just days.

There are two different prenatal paternity tests that can be administered. The Chorionic Villi Sampling (CVS) can be performed between the 10th and 13th week of pregnancy. A small DNA sample is collected from the placenta and then analyzed. This sample can be collected through the abdominal wall or vaginally.During the 14th to 24th week of pregnancy, an amniocentesis will be performed instead. Here, a small sample of the amniotic fluid is collected for a DNA sample. A needle is administered through the abdominal wall in order to collect the fluid.

A sample of loose cheek cells will then need to be collected from the parents. This too can be done in the OBGYN's office and is done by rubbing two swabs on the inside of the parents' cheeks. The DNA is then analyzed for genetic similarities and the paternity of the unborn child can be determined. As with any procedure involving genetic testing, a prenatal paternity test does carry a slight risk of infection or miscarriage. However, a prenatal paternity test can offer the hope and answers you are looking for far before you deliver your baby.
